In 2009, GLAMOUR's daily style blog Slaves to Fashion made a plea to celebs like Madonna, Kelly Osbourne and Drew Barrymore to give up the growing trend of heart-shaped sunglasses, calling them desperate to recapture their youth and calling the trend "so third grade". The author of that post sited her copy of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita (as well as a copy of the film Lolita) features the main character in a pair of these heart-shaped sunglasses.
Three years later, the heart-shaped shades are hotter than ever and are often referred to as Lolita sunglasses. I must say I agree with Glamour. In a recent post about the hottest sunglass trends for summer 2012, I expressed how I think this is a trend best left for a fun day with the girls, because there probably isn't a straight man on earth who likes these. I think the best version of this sunglass trend for 2012 is the heart-shaped sunglasses for children.

Still, I stand by my original statement that they should only be worn on a fun weekend outing with the girls or a day at the beach. They come in different colors, prints and sizes. The great thing about all the heart-shaped sunglasses featured below is they are all under $20.

These floral printed Lolita's would go great with the colored denim trend. Try pairing them with purple denim and a white tank.

These red Lolita shades are 80s inspired, so I'm totally seeing them with a rock 'n' roll look...some punk-rock black skinny jeans and perhaps a black and white top with a Flash Dance inspired neckline.

I think these white Lolita's are my favorite. I can totally see them on the beach, paired with a black and white striped bathing suit or a sexy black bikini. They also look young and fresh with that printed sundress in the teenVOGUE photo.
Would you dare to wear any of these? If so, which color and what would you wear them with?
